The Advent Sleepout Challenge is a national, sponsored event to help homeless people in England transform their lives and communities through the work of the Together Network.
During Advent, people throughout England will be giving up a night of comfort and sleeping out with their friends, families, church groups, clubs and community groups. They’ll be wrapping up in their winter woollies for a fun night in school halls, churches, community halls, scout huts, garden sheds…pretty much anywhere, just as long as it’s not in their beds.
Nearly 1000 Team Challenges have taken place in the last 3 years for Advent Sleepout
By receiving sponsorship for sleeping out, these groups are making an incredible difference to people across England who desperately need some help and support. Yet there is still more to do – Sleepouts in 2018 will help us raise much needed funds to continue our work with the homeless, vulnerable and marginalised.
You can join in the fun by organising your own sleepout, you’ll find all the resources you need in our Sleepout Toolkit to make your event simple to organise, fun and safe.
The Advent Sleepout Challenge is a great way to do something really special during the build up to Christmas.
The Together Network supports winter night shelters throughout England and thanks to the Advent Sleepout Challenge over 1,000 bed spaces have been provided in the last three years. In 2017, over 450 volunteers hours and 30+ partnerships with organisations including local governments, churches and community centres, have made this possible through Winter Night Shelters.
The Together Network works in local communities to tackle injustice and inequality such as food poverty, financial instability and much more. A key focus during the winter season is working in partnership with local churches and other organisations to provide services and support to the homeless. One response to this is providing night shelters which aim to offer whole person solutions, much more than just a bed. This kind of support is deeply transformative, and gives more people a chance for renewed hope and an opportunity to live life in all its fullness. Our support to the homeless and to those living on the margins is made possible by those who take the Advent Sleepout Challenge. Read the stories below to find out more.
